Welcome to Red Dog Retreat, named after the "red dogs" of Yellowstone — the baby bison known for their reddish-brown coats. This brand-new Island Park townhome is a warm, comfortable home base for exploring Yellowstone, doing some world-class fly-fishing, riding the hundreds of miles of ATV trails, and taking in mountain views that never get old.
Located about 20 minutes from the West Entrance of Yellowstone National Park — and about 2 hours from Grand Teton National Park — Red Dog Retreat offers space to relax, gather, and recharge after a day of exploring.

Why we built this place
Kristi and I are lifelong travelers. After years of chasing the next trip, we started wanting something different — a way to feel more connected to the places we loved instead of just passing through them. I first came to Yellowstone back in college and never really got over it; the greater Yellowstone area is one of my favorite places on earth, and I find my way back most years, usually with friends or family along for the ride. Red Dog Retreat, our first short-term rental, is what happens when that pull turns into a decision — a brand-new build in the corner of the country we can't stay away from.
The name comes from a trip a few springs ago, when I came up on my own and fell for the baby bison wandering the park — "red dogs," as the locals call them, for their reddish-brown coats. This year I finally got Kristi up for her first spring visit, and between learning that name and finding this property, the trip changed things: we decided Island Park was going to be part of our lives. Most of the homes nearby lean on the usual mountain names — Bear, Wolf, Moose, Pines — and we're even on Yeti Lane, surrounded by Bigfoot and Sasquatch neighbors. We wanted something that was ours.
What we built is exactly what Kristi pictured: cozy and homey, nothing sterile or hotel-like — somewhere you can land after a big day of adventuring and actually feel at peace. We hope it feels that way for you too.

Where the name comes from
Red Dog Retreat backs directly onto US Forest Service land, with moose, elk, deer, fox, and a resident bald eagle regularly spotted from the property. It's home base for Yellowstone's "red dogs" — the baby bison the name is borrowed from.
